Once again I had the good fortune to spend three days in Pamplona at the Malofiej conference.
Observations from this year include much use of the word ‘storytelling’ and the fact that there is a massive range in size and maturity of infographic departments around the world making it hard, maybe wrong, to try to compare of their output.
Over and above that the weather was glorious. The Americans were hilarious. The Jumping Jester was still there, their measures were still large. But – unusually – too many of the talks involved flicking through people’s portfolios. Personally I found myself responding much more positively to the more aesthetically considered and pleasing graphics, something I attribute to my background in graphic design.
As usual it was a thoroughly inspiring, stimulating and exhausting three days. (And I’ve finally learnt the lesson not to tack on a visit to friends or a spot of sight-seeing before/after, and to fly all the way to and from Pamplona).
