Just an observation, no conclusions, about the fact that the more my works overlaps with that of developers the more the ‘graphic designer’ way of working is being challenged.
Traditionally graphic designers retain control over everything on the page until we are satisfied, send it off to be printed or published, and that’s it.
In internet-land you do it in phases. Put something out there, gauge a response, tweak the work, add the next phase to it, and repeat, etc, etc. That scares me. But it works for their projects. Same approach as the Times have used to develop their iPad app.
(This inability of mine to embrace an iterative approach is highlighted by the ridiculous lead time to getting around to publishing this blog. I seem to want to craft it to perfection before releasing it into the world. Need to just put it out there. And iterate. I’ll do it, soon…)
